Ginseng - Panax Ginseng
Ginseng originates from the woods of East Asia and is grown in China, Korea, Japan and Bulgaria, among other countries. Ginseng extract is derived from its roots, since they have a high concentration of saponins, essential oils, polysaccharides, vitamins, amino acids and trace elements. Among its known properties, the most popular is hair growth stimulation.
In the cosmetic field, Ginseng root is used to formulate creams, shampoos or root decoctions intended to improve skin tone and turgor and to strengthen the hair. Its positive effect on collagen regeneration has been proven, which is why it is used in anti-ageing and firming cosmetics. As well as having other antioxidant virtues, it is used in alopecia treatments, since many studies have shown it to be a stimulating agent in hair growth.
Hops - Humulus Lupulus
This extract is rich in flavonoids, essential oils, bitter principles and other active ingredients. It has an astringent and anti-seborrhoeic action, it tones the scalp and provides vitality, it regulates dandruff and slows hair loss. These properties are due to the fact that hops extract has an anti-androgen activity. Therefore, it is used to counteract overly-high androgen levels, in androgenic alopecia formulations and also to regulate the sebum associated with this hormone (acne, seborrhoea, hirsutism). For its part, Hops essential oil is purifying and antiseptic.
Hops have traditionally been used to combat insomnia and anxiety problems. Female hops flowers are a common ingredient used to preserve beer, although with their distilled oils and extracts, they can also flavour foods and non-alcoholic drinks, and scent astringent lotions. A brown-coloured hair tint is also derived from the female flowers.
Soya - Glycine max
Soya extract is rich in carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. It is used in cosmetics as a hair conditioner, due to its anti-breakage properties and its ability to hydrate and protect hair fibres. Its isoflavones protect hair colour from oxidisation.
In phytotherapy, Soya has been used in hormone replacement therapies during the menopause and as an adjuvant in osteoporotic processes, again, thanks to its isoflavone content.
Wheat - Triticum Vulgare
Wheat germ is the most nutritious part of Wheat and is used in cosmetic products due to its softening, hydrating and conditioning properties. Wheat Germ contains protein, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamin E, glucides, lecithin, mineral salts and trace elements. Its revitalising, stimulating and strengthening action helps to combat hair loss.
Thanks to its proteins, it is used in cosmetics to provide hydration and improve skin elasticity. As a hair conditioner, it softens and protects hair colour from oxidisation and solar radiation.
Caffeine - Coffea arabica L.
Its cosmetic properties include its positive effects such as stimulating circulation. Therefore, it is used in tonics, slimming and anti-cellulite products and in hair products which stimulate the scalp. It is also extensively used as an antioxidant against ageing processes, protection against solar radiation and for maintaining hair colour.
