Milton Sterilising Tablets are an easy and convenient way to sterilise baby feeding and breastfeeding equipment using cold water. Simply dissolve one tablet in 5 litres of cold water to create a sterilising solution that kills 99.9% of germs and is effective in just 15 minutes. The solution remains effective for up to 24 hours, allowing items to be added and removed throughout the day as needed. Compact and easy to use without electricity, the tablets are ideal for everyday use at home as well as travel and overnight stays.

How to Use
- Clean: Wash bottles, teats and other equipment in warm soapy water, then rinse thoroughly.
- Prepare: Fill your sterilising container with 5 litres of clear cold water and add 1 Milton Sterilising Tablet. Allow the tablet to fully dissolve.
- Sterilise: Completely immerse items in the solution and leave for at least 15 minutes.
- Items may remain in the solution for up to 24 hours. Rinse with cooled boiled water before use.
- Renew the sterilising solution every 24 hours.
The tablet is divisible in 4. When you need less than 5 litres, you can adjust accordingly.
Composition:
- Active ingredient: Troclosene Sodium (CAS: 2893-78-9) 19.5% w/w
- Same active ingredient as the one used to make water drinkable.
- No ingredients from animal origin.
Efficacy
Proofs of Efficacy to European Norms:
Effective on Coronavirus, Rotavirus (N°1 cause for gastroenteritis) and MRSA.
Bactericidal: in 5 minutes EN1040, in 15 minutes EN1276 including MRSA, in 15 minutes EN 14561. Effective on Listeria, Salmonella and Campylobacter.
Yeasticidal: in 15 minutes EN1650, EN 14562 on Candida albicans (germ responsible for thrush).
Virucidal: in 5 min EN 14476 on Adenovirus, Rotavirus, in 1 min EN 14476+A1 on Bovine Coronavirus. Full virucidal activity: 2 tablets per litre of water, EN14476:2013+A2:2019 (wearing gloves and rinsing required).

Items are sterilised after just 15 minutes of complete immersion in the Milton solution but can be left soaking for up to 24 hours. Items can be added and removed to and from the solution throughout the day as and when they are needed.

You can use a solution made up with Milton Sterilising Tablets or Fluid to clean all objects, floors and surfaces in your home. The solution can be used to disinfect fridges, chopping boards, plastic containers.
Use this simple dilution:
Dilute 150 ml (5 capfuls) of Milton Fluid or 3 Milton Tablets in 5 litres of cold water (dilution at 1.8% v/v). Surfaces are disinfected after 15 minutes. Rinse with cooled boiled water and leave to dry. The disinfecting solution is effective for 24 hours.
Why do I now need to rinse after using Milton Sterilising products?
Milton products have been used and trusted for over 100 years, with millions of parents and midwives using the Milton Method of sterilising. Our loved formula has not changed but the regulations that apply to our products have been updated.
To comply with the new stricter regulations, we must recommend an additional rinsing step after sterilising. The regulatory bodies have advised Milton to update its instructions to “rinse with drinking water” and we have begun updating our packaging and website communications accordingly. However, we are aware that this change has caused confusion, as there is a disconnect between our new advice—“rinse with drinking water”—and the guidance from the NHS, which currently states “either shake off the formula or use cooled boiled water”.
We are now consulting with the NHS to align the advice.
To avoid confusion in the short term, we are updating our advice on rinsing to “rinse with cooled boiled water.” And we are in the process of reviewing our packaging and website.
While the regulatory authorities have confirmed that it is safe to rinse with drinking water, and this is not a mandatory requirement, Milton wants to ensure that users receive a single, unified set of instructions aligned with NHS guidance.
We apologise for any confusion this has caused and remain fully committed to the highest standards of safety, helping parents protect their families from germs.
