Proven to maintain probiotic viability 4 x longer
BioGaia® is the only probiotic brand featuring LongevityGuard®, our patented protective technology that guarantees the stability and quality of live L. reuteri Protectis® (Lactobacillus reuteri). Each daily dose provides 200 million live friendly bacteria, guaranteed. No refrigeration required for convenient, everyday use.
In head‑to‑head testing, formulas with LongevityGuard® technology have been shown to keep the probiotics viable for 24 months, while non‑protected probiotics fell below the CFU limit by month 6.
What is the new L. reuteri BG-R46?
BG‑R46®, is BioGaia’s new patented probiotic strain developed in collaboration with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). We wanted to develop a strain that could be even more adapted to the gut than its mother-strain Protecitis® DSM 17938. BG-R46® has kept many of the important properties of DSM 17938, but comes with an optimised toolbox, designed for a strain designated for the infant gut.
Ingredients
Sunflower oil, L. reuteri Protectis®(L. reuteri DSM 17938), L. reuteri BG-R46®, fully hydrogenated rapeseed oil and Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). The package contains a white desiccant device for prolongation of shelf-life. This should not be consumed.
Recommended dose:
Intended for full-term infants only.
5 drops once daily. One daily dose (five drops) contains a minimum of 200 million live L. reuteri and 10µg of Vitamin D, corresponding to 200% of RI (Reference Intake) in the UK.
Recommended daily dose should not be exceeded. This product should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
How To Use
For babies, drops can be dispensed onto the breast, or added to breast milk or formula, and can also be dispensed on a sterile spoon.
1. Shake well for 10 seconds before each use to mix the bacteria culture with the oil.
2. To dispense the drops, tilt the bottle gently and give by a spoon.
3. Use 5 drops once daily.
No need to refrigerate. Store below 25°C.
Do not add drops to hot food, hot drinks or feed directly into the mouth from the bottle as this may reduce the quality of the product.
Storage: Store in a dry place, not above room temperature (max 25°C). Products should be kept out of reach of children.
More about L. reuteri BG-R46
A newly patented strain, Limosilactobacillus reuteri BG-R46®, has been published in the prestigious journal Beneficial Microbes. This next-generation strain will be featured in BioGaia's upcoming baby drops product.
Developed by BioGaia AB (NASDAQ: BIOG) and a research team at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, led by Prof. Stefan Roos, who also oversees BioGaia’s preclinical studies. BG-R46® is an evolved derivative of L. reuteri DSM 17938, obtained through selective exposure to bile, a major stressor in the infant gastrointestinal tract. This process yielded a strain with significantly enhanced bile tolerance, a trait that supports improved survival and colonization in the gut.
In addition to its resilience, L. reuteri BG-R46® demonstrates potentiated production of adenosine, a powerful signaling molecule known for its anti-inflammatory properties and broader physiological roles. Notably, the enzyme 5’-nucleotidase, responsible for adenosine synthesis, was found to be upregulated in large-scale production batches of BG-R46®, indicating robust bioactivity.
