1. What is the Fly Tot?
The Original Fly Tot is an inflatable cushion that can be placed on the ground in front of your airplane seat. It helps create a miniature bed for children so they can stretch out their legs and sleep comfortably on long flights or road trips. It can also be used by adults to elevate the legs and reduce swelling and back pain.
The Original Fly Tot inflatable cushion was developed by two mothers who wanted to help their children get rest on long flights. Our patented design features two widths so passengers flying in both standard and premium economy can use the Fly Tot. One side is wide, for roomier spaces and one side is narrow, for those tighter seats.
2. Is the Fly Tot inflatable cushion safe to use on flights?
When used properly, the Fly Tot is safe to use on flights. Our patented design with two widths allows the Fly Tot inflatable cushion to securely fit in most standard and premium economy seats. Our quick release valve allows passengers to quickly deflate and stow away the Fly Tot inflatable cushion during times of turbulence.
Using our The Original Fly Tot inflatable cushion is the best option for families looking for a way to keep their children on their nap/sleep schedules so they can better enjoy their family vacations.
3. Is the Fly Tot inflatable® cushion approved for use on all airlines?
Most airlines do not have any issues with the use of the Fly Tot inflatable cushion on board their flights.
The Fly Tot inflatable cushion has not yet been officially approved by all airlines and regulators. Some airlines have officially approved the Fly Tot inflatable cushion, including Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Etihad and Virgin Australia.
Our team has personally met with international airline regulators and several airlines to introduce them to the Fly Tot inflatable cushion and educate them on our product. Since the Fly Tot inflatable cushion does not pose any safety risks, the key concern airlines have is making sure the passengers properly use our Fly Tot inflatable cushion. Thus we have expanded our instructions and hope that all customers take the time to carefully read through them.
Regulation varies between countries and in most cases the decision on whether the Fly Tot inflatable cushion may be used rests with the airline cabin crew, based on their assessment of any dangers and risks posed to the safety of your child and the passengers around you.
If the airline cabin crew permits the use of the Fly Tot, they will require the following restrictions to be adhered to:
- The Fly Tot inflatable cushion must not be used during taxi, takeoff and landing.
- Your child’s head should not be placed towards the seatback in front of you.
- Your child should remain securely buckled up at all times, with the seatbelt wrapped around the torso.
- Please make sure to follow any additional instructions from your cabin crew because they truly care about you and your family’s safety.
Some airlines may also require your child to be moved to a seated position with the seatbelt fastened whenever the seatbelt signs are illuminated. If your child is under two years old, your child should be moved and placed back on your lap as he/she was for takeoff and landing.
4. Can the Fly Tot® be used on all airline seats?
To prevent blocking the aisle in the event of an emergency, we recommend the Fly Tot inflatable cushion be used on window seats. If you are seated on a wide-body airplane with two aisles, the Fly Tot can also be used on the middle seat of the middle row.
5. What if the seat in front reclines?
In all seats with a standard recline angle, the Fly Tot is not affected when the seat reclines.
6. How long does it take to inflate and deflate the Fly Tot®?
- Inflating the Fly Tot usually takes just under 3 minutes.
- Deflating it usually takes under just a few seconds.
- Fly Tot 2.0: Features Havilland 12™ emergency release valve, to auto-deflate the cushion during an emergency
