If you are a parent dealing with a colicky baby or looking to support your little one's digestion, you have likely heard of BioGaia. It is one of the most trusted and popular baby probiotics on the market.
However, when you are ready to buy, you might notice a few different options on our site, from UK and EU versions to bottles with or without Vitamin D. To make your shopping experience as seamless as possible, we have put together this quick FAQ guide to answer the most common questions we get about BioGaia drops.
Should I choose BioGaia with or without Vitamin D?
Choose BioGaia with Vitamin D if your baby is exclusively breastfed to help support their immunity and bone development. If your baby is formula-fed, choose the standard version without Vitamin D, as infant formula is already fortified with it.
The Vitamin D options are fantastic for breastfed babies because they offer a dual benefit: you get the main probiotic to aid digestion and ease colic, plus an added dose of Vitamin D to boost their developing immune system.
What is the difference between the UK and EU Versions?
The main difference between the UK and various EU versions of BioGaia is the language on the packaging and the country of origin. To the best of our knowledge, there is absolutely no difference in the probiotic content inside the bottle.
- UK Versions: These are manufactured for the UK market and feature English packaging.
- EU Versions (e.g., Polish or Bulgarian): These are manufactured for the European Union market. The packaging will be in the language of the specific country from which the stock is sourced.
Rest assured, the live Lactobacillus reuteri bacteria that makes BioGaia so effective are identical across these versions. You can always see the exact language and country version in the main image and product title on our listings.
How do I check the expiry date before buying?
We believe in complete transparency, so we state the expiry dates directly in our product names on the website in a MM/YY format. For example, an item with "(Exp 08/25)" in the title will expire in August 2025.
You never have to guess how fresh your probiotics are. Here is a quick breakdown of how to read our BioGaia product titles so you know exactly what you are getting:

Does BioGaia need to be refrigerated?
No. BioGaia has updated its formula with LongevityGuard so that the drops no longer require strict refrigeration. Simply store in a dry place, not above room temperature (max 25°C).
Previously, unopened BioGaia drops did not need to be kept in the fridge, but once the bottle was opened, it had to be stored in the refrigerator to keep the live bacteria active. Short-term exposure to higher temperatures during delivery is perfectly permitted and will not damage the bacteria. Only very long exposures (several months) to high temperatures pose a risk.
To guarantee maximum freshness and efficacy before it even reaches you, all BioGaia sold on Pupsik is safely stored in our air-conditioned warehouse until it is packed and shipped directly to your door.
What is the little stick inside the BioGaia bottle?
The small stick inside your BioGaia bottle is their unique LongevityGuard - a special moisture-absorbing strip placed inside the bottle. It is designed to keep the friendly probiotic bacteria active and viable from the first drop to the last, even at room temperature.
Exposure to moisture is a common culprit, which could cause the friendly bacteria to become less viable – or even inactive. That’s why the environment inside the bottle is just as important as the formula itself. BioGaia’s LongevityGuard helps to eliminate that worry. It’s a scientifically researched technology, designed to deliver results you can trust.
