Dapple standard practice has been to develop cleaning products that have a minimum of a 3year shelf life. Part of this is industry practice, part of it is based on OTC regulations that allow the manufacturer to not include an expiration date on a drug product if it has a minimum 3year shelf life. Although most products of this type are not OTC, the practice has carried over.

Products are typically qualified for this 3-year minimum with accelerated testing. Product is stored at 50°C for three months. The product is monitored and tested on a monthly basis. If the product is unchanged (or minimally changed) after these 3-months, it is estimated to have 3year shelf life. These tests are usually discontinued after the 3-months. However, because the qualification criteria is “minimally changed,” the product would likely have a much longer shelf life.

Dapple products with a stated 3-year shelf life are good beyond the three years. The only degradation that might occur beyond the three years could be the development of an off-odor, a decrease in the strength of the fragrance, or a decrease in viscosity (thickness). The product would still be effective beyond the 3-year minimum.
